Dear Brock ISD Resident,
We are reaching out to you in order to explain how, as a committee of community members much like yourself, we came together at the direction of the district to understand the needs of our schools and formulate a plan to help solve them. The bond propositions you will see on the ballot were formed by a committee of 31 community members, including: parents, grandparents, business owners, Brock ISD staff and administration, & community leaders. The district had over $125 million dollars worth of needs, which meant as a committee we had to really dig into the data and make hard choices to prioritize what needs we could propose to meet. Our process was grounded in a majority consensus and the bond package today had 100% support from the committee.
We have provided information about the bond on this mailer, but want to take this time to really tell you WHY you should vote YES on each of the propositions.
Prop A: School, Buses & Wastewater Treatment: This was one of the most critical problems we have in this community, we are growing and have been for the past years, which is a GREAT thing! Our district is one of the most attractive places to live and raise a family because of our school and this community, but with that growth we are running out of space for our kids. Currently the elementary is using portable buildings for classrooms today, and soon the intermediate will be in the same position. It’s critical we build a new school in order to provide a place for our kids to learn and thrive! This school will solve our capacity needs in K-8th for the next 9 years!!
Prop B: Multipurpose facility: What makes Brock great is that we have over 90% of our student body involved in extra-curricular activities such as Athletics, Fine Arts, Band, Choir, CTE classes etc.. Our current facilities are just not meeting the needs and we wanted to provide a space that the majority of students could use, as well as the community! This multipurpose building will give our student and community a tremendous opportunity to pursue excellence in all that we do, and provide a space that our elementary/intermediate kids can go during bad weather days, as well as community events that can house this amazing group of parents and community members. With adding the additional 4 classrooms for fine arts and CTE, we are freeing up classrooms and giving our high school an extra year before it is at capacity.
Prop C: This was simply an issue about safety for us. Currently the turf is reaching the end of its useful life and will become unplayable given the risk of impact to our kids. We want to ensure that the safety of our students is the highest priority and ensure our youth programs still have the opportunity to grow and play on their home turf! If this is not covered in this bond, the district would have to use funds from their maintenance and operations budget (M&O), which would limit availability of funds for things like teacher salaries and potential raises.
I hope this provides a little insight into our decision-making process and why as a community committee we believe that you should VOTE YES for this bond to ensure we provide the space and opportunity for our kids to grow and become well rounded individuals who succeed in anything they choose to pursue with excellence. Again deepest thanks for all your support! You are Brock, so let’s get to the polls and get this bond passed!
